FULL BLURB

What happens when an almost thirty-year-old virgin agrees to let her Scottish footballer best friend give her some lessons in seduction?

Lots of banter, awkwardness, jealousy, and heat.

Midfielder Maclay “Mac” Logan is a loud-mouthed, tattooed ginger content with focusing on football. But when an adorably-freckled seamstress comes barreling into his life, he finds Netflix-And-Bickering with her to be his new favorite pastime.

Freya Cook is used to being the invisible woman with a needle and thread, offering cheeky punchlines as she helps dress London’s finest. She’s plus-sized in body and spirit, and other than her friendship with Mac, talking to the opposite sex is one skill she never mastered.

However, after one innocent game of Never Have I Ever, Mac offers to play Love Coach for Freya.

What neither of them see coming are the feelings that develop when the clothes come off.

Now they’re both about to learn the biggest lesson of all: Don't fall in love with your best friend.

What happens when an almost thirty-year-old virgin agrees to let her Scottish best friend take her virginity? A whole lot more than either of them bargained for…

With a heavy sigh, I drop down on the bed beside her, shaking my head and staring at the floor. “The kiss couldn’t have been that bad.”
“It was,” she mumbles defeatedly.
“There’s no way,” I argue, glancing at her lips. “You have nice lips. Perfect for kissing.”
“It doesn’t matter,” she replies, her lower lip quivering slightly. “I am incapable of using them. I’m a wanker.”
“You’re not a wanker.”
“I’m a lip wanker.”
“How do you know he’s not the lip wanker?” I ask with a gruff reply. “Maybe you just didn’t have the right partner. Any man with a cheese hut doesn’t sound like he’s kissing a lot of burds.”
She turns a flat look at me. “I promise you, Mac. Even if I had the right partner, I would be crap.”

Now I’m getting angry. “Prove it.”

Next In Line Review Blitz & Giveaway

* * * * *

What happens when the cute mountain man you made out with in an ice fishing shack turns out to be your brother’s best friend?

A whole lot of awkward, that’s what.

Maggie’s mind is reeling when she discovers the guy she became tangled up with at Marv’s Bait & Tackle isn’t a stranger like she thought.

The big snag: Sam and Maggie’s chemistry is hot enough to melt ice, which makes keeping their secret far more difficult than either expected.

Especially when one of them decides they want this arrangement to be more than just a catch and release.

Rom coms are the best because you know there'll be hilarity, high jinx and awkwardness involved. And folks, I needed a good laugh after the month that I'd had. Next In Line is the second to Amy Daws' wildly hyped and successful Wait With Me. Tire Depot once again serves as one of the backdrops to an unexpected romance between the incoming new owner of the store and a young adventure-seeker who just so happens to be his employee's sister. Oh and said employee is also his bestest friend in the whole wide world. Yep. Awkward!

Sam first meets Maggie at the bait shop where all the romance lovers these days go, don't you know? Actually, he's there to go ice fishing, his favourite pastime and she happens to be there because she thought it would be a good idea try something new. Her bubble is burst when she realizes how out of her depth she is, and after a ridiculous altercation Sam offers to teach her all about the fine art of ice fishing. Truth is, Maggie's on a quest to become less "basic" and add more excitement to her life in hopes of winning her ex back. She has this firm image in her head that their love-at-first-sight story is meant to have a happily ever after. Sam is the perfect guide to take her through outdoor sports and who knows, maybe some other adventure?

In the past I've typically been harsh on female protagonists. I've been critical about their lack of foresight, their motives or the ability to be themselves. I've noticed a shift in my thinking and it was apparent as I read Next In Line. Maggie is much younger than Sam and her worldview is still limited. Nowhere is that more glaring than when she continues to do things specifically to impress her ex.These moments are reminders of how much more she has to experience of the world and relationships. Sam sees all this unfolding before him but hand it to him, he keeps his opinions to himself, mostly. I liked the contrast of Sam's maturity against Maggie's lack thereof at certain times. Even if he won't come right out and say something, he does give her cause to think about her actions. But then comes back with an answer which seems to be her truth at that moment. She considers things and it's okay that she's still muddled about her ex and struggling with the changing image of her future. Being around Sam is helping her think things through.

I had laugh out loud moments while reading the book and all in all I just simply enjoyed it from beginning to end. Amy Daws adds funny incidents but never at the expense of her characters. You're laughing with them not at them. Sam and Maggie make a fantastic couple and I loved their chemistry instantly. Any fan of rom-coms should definitely read Next In Line and brighten up their holidays!

Chapter 5

Suddenly, I hear Miles bellow, “There you are, Megan! Come over here and meet my best buddy, Sam! He’s technically my boss at Tire Depot, but I don’t like to remind him, or he gets a big head.”
I turn to shake hands with whoever Miles is talking to, and suddenly, I feel like I’ve been kicked in the nuts.
Or actually…the taint.
Yeah, this feeling right here…it’s too deep for a nut kick. This panic-seizing, gut-twisting, body-tremoring attack overwhelming all my senses has a taint kick written all over it.
Because I’m staring into the stunning blue eyes of my ice fishing companion from the past two weekends.
“Sam, this is my baby sister, Megan, visiting us all the way from Utah. Megan, this is my best friend, Sam.” Maggie’s smile falters with recognition as Miles, her…brother—oh fucking fuck, her brother—drapes his arm over her shoulder and smiles back at me.
Like a moron, I instantly bring my beer to my lips and take three slow glugs. Whatever I can do to avoid touching her outstretched hand right now because I’m convinced the second I touch her in front of her brother, Miles will know I’ve thought about her naked no less than nineteen times.
And now I’m thinking about her naked again.
I nod stupidly and continue to chug my beer like a damn college frat boy as Miles and Maggie watch me curiously. Finally, I pry the cold glass from my lips long enough to give her a head nod.
A fucking head nod.
Only douchebags who call a girl basic would give a fucking head nod.
I look down at where she’s still holding her hand out for me to shake, and God help me, my traitorous eyes scan the rest of her body at the same time. Her perfect round tits are covered beneath this short black lace dress. It’s way too fucking dressy for the likes of Pearl’s, but hell if she doesn’t look sexy. She’s wearing black plaid tights and little ankle boots with a big ass heel that bring her up to my chin. I’d gotten used to her being at my chest in her snow boots. The same boots she was wearing when I kissed my best friend’s little sister in my fucking fishing hut.
My mind instantly begins trying to remember everything I said to Miles about his sister in his truck earlier. Jesus Christ, this is bad.
Suddenly, Maggie reaches out and forcefully grabs my hand to shake. “Hi Sam, my friends call me Maggie. Miles is the only one who still calls me Megan…even my parents say Maggie. It’s nice to meet you…for the first time.”
She’s talking slow, and I feel myself nodding with buggy eyes as I attempt to swallow back the cotton in my mouth and ignore the sparks shooting up my hand from her touch. “Nice to meet you for the first time, too. How long have you been in town visiting?” Jesus hell, I sound like a robot on acid.
Her dimple flashes when she realizes I’m not going to spill the beans. “I just arrived a couple of hours ago.”
I unclench my jaw and belatedly realize we’re still shaking hands. “Today?” I can’t help but say it as a question because where the fuck has she been staying for the past week if Miles thinks she just got into town today?
“Yes, I was visiting my boyfriend in his hometown on the East Coast and decided to stay in Boulder for a few weeks before heading back to Utah.”
My eyes are blinking, and I can’t stop them because my mind is completely jumbled up right now. I can’t differentiate the lie from the truth. Is she still with her boyfriend and was lying to me? Or did she tell me the truth, and she’s lying to Miles?
This is why you don’t break your own rules, Sammy. Girls with baggage are never easy.

Review

* * * * *

The ending of a much beloved series is typically bittersweet and after spending so much time with the characters and getting to know them, how can it not be? Dominate is the ending to a series that introduced me to the crazy Harris Brothers and an awesome, funny author whom I count as one of my favourites now.

Surrender ended abruptly with a cliffhanger that sent many fans into a tizzy, myself included. Even though Daws pushed up the release date my poor heart couldn't take the wait. Dominate takes up immediately after what happens and since the two books have been released so close to each other and some readers may not have had a chance to catch up, I'll refrain from giving away any specific details. I was stunned and moved to tears by the opening chapter. It wasn't what I expected but it set the tone for the remainder of the story. Gareth and Sloan take important steps in their relationship towards cementing themselves as a couple, having plenty of steamy hot sexy times as they figure out their next steps. But Dominate surprises here because it's not just about them. The Harris Brothers series has always been about family and forgiveness, and family takes center stage here. The biggest missing piece is finally given a substantial voice: Vaughn Harris, the elusive patriarch who has had a significant influence in his children's lives, molding and shaping them into the people they are today. Having him play a significant role, especially in respects towards Gareth's issues makes Dominate a cohesive story that is filled with memories, new opportunities, and bright futures. It will make you laugh, cry, swoon, get excited - you'll feel all the heady emotions. Daws adds lovely touches throughout by tying up loose ends. She even helps us relive some of that World Cup action!

If you've been reading along, Dominate will not disappoint you, it'll just make you cry because you know, it's the end. By the way, is it too early to ask for The Harris Family: The Next Generation? Amy Daws, thank you for making me laugh so hard and cry just as hard. You've given me that cheeky British humour I love so much. You've done it here. Dominate has come full circle and the Harris Brothers leave the pitch on a high note!
