Woohoo!  We are so excited to read Rebound and check out this awesome cover!  If you haven't read Boomerang you are so missing out - Nat and I LOVE that book!

Here's an excerpt, then scroll down for the completely awesome cover.

At Boomerang, one night can change everything…

Adam Blackwood has it all. At twenty-two, he’s fabulously wealthy, Ryan Gosling-hot and at the top of his game in the business world. His life is perfect, until a scandal from his past resurfaces and threatens to knock the tech wunderkind down and throw his company, Boomerang, a hook-up site for millennials, into chaos.

Alison Quick, the twenty-one-year-old daughter of a business tycoon—and the very ex-girlfriend of Boomerang’s former intern, Ethan—has a problem of her own. After nearly flunking out in her senior year of college, she has one chance to redeem herself to her father by proving that she deserves a place in his corporate empire. That means spearheading her father’s plan to sink big money into Adam’s company and launch it into the stratosphere—provided Adam has no skeletons in his closet.

When the two meet, their sizzling chemistry makes it tough to keep things strictly professional. But when Alison discovers Adam’s secret, she knows she should bring it right to her father, who’ll leverage it for his own gain and use it to ruin Adam. The only problem: she’s falling for Adam—hard.

Will earning her father’s approval come at the price of losing her first real love? Or can Adam and Alison leave behind past mistakes and conquer the world—together?

Boomerang by Noelle August

Boomerang
* * * *

The first book in a sensational New Adult trilogy from Noelle August

Welcome to Boomerang.com, the dating site for the millennial gen with its no-fuss, no-commitments matchups, and where work is steamier than any random hook-up

Mia Galliano is an aspiring filmmaker. Ethan Vance has just played his last game as a collegiate soccer star. They’re sharp, hungry for success, and they share a secret.

Last night, Ethan and Mia met at a bar, and, well . . . one thing led to another, which led to them waking up the next morning—together. Things turned awkward in a hurry when they found themselves sharing a post hookup taxi . . . to the same place: Boomerang headquarters.

What began as a powerful connection between them is treated to a cold shower courtesy of two major complications. First, Boomerang has a strict policy against co-worker dating. And second, they’re now competitors for only one job at the end of summer.

As their internships come to an end, will they manage to keep their eyes on the future and their hands off each other, or will the pull of attraction put them right back where they started?

Review:

The cover for Boomerang was one of the many sexy book covers we saw while at the Romantic Times convention.  It was sexy AND cute.  It was so bright and happy and so successfully screamed “READ ME” that all three of us noticed it and commented on it all week.  Then the chaos that is the Avon party happened.  After focusing on the big authors I was dying to meet (I met Lisa Kleypas, y’all!!!) I started to make my way through the crowd.  I almost gave up because it was like swimming up stream.  But I wanted to check out the YA authors attending the event so I gathered the liquid courage by quickly downing two glasses of wine (THANK YOU, AVON!) and thrust myself into the chaos.

As I was perusing the YA section I saw the very funny and talented Veronica Rossi.  She had a stack of Under the Never Sky.  While standing in line to acquire a copy for a future giveaway (because we love to share our favorite series with all of you) I noticed she also had advanced reader copies of Boomerang.  Wait?  What?  Veronica Rossi is Noelle August (well, one half of Noelle August - the other half being the lovely Lorin Oberweger)?  Boomerang just got seriously more appealing.   So yeah, I somehow was lucky enough to get a copy of Boomerang and it is now making the rounds between Bel, Shel and me.

I have to tell you, after reading so many New Adult titles that are full of angst and broken characters; it was refreshing to read a story about two highly functional people that are likable to the extreme.

Mia Galliano wakes up the first day of her internship in a stranger’s bed.  The events of the previous night are more than a little murky.  That’s kind of what happens when you see too much of a bottle of Patron Silver.  Normally, this would be an embarrassing scenario in a book.  But Mia is kind of amazing.  She is fiercely independent, highly intelligent, ambitious and so comfortable in her own skin that I was almost jealous.  She seems more amused than bemused by the whole situation.  Her only concerns are the fact that she isn’t sure of this hottie’s name (is it Evan or Ethan?) and that she is going to be late for her new internship.  That second concern being the most important because for Mia, her internship at Boomerang is the perfect opportunity to pursue her career.

Ethan is regretting that he can’t remember the night before.  Because the girl in his apartment (unlike Mia, he remembers her name) is a beautiful force of nature.  After giving Mia a shirt to wear over her dress (because it’s stained with booze) and helping her find her under wear (in the toaster oven) they leave his apartment and end up sharing a cab.  Just when Ethan has decided that he really wants to see Mia again, the cabbie drops them off.  At the same address.

The blurb tells you the rest.  They are both interns for Boomerang and are told they will be competing for one open position.  Oh, and there is a no fraternization policy.  This isn’t a story about two ambitious people doing anything to win a job.  This is a story about two ambitious MATURE adults that put in 110%  and work together so that one of them can win a job.  It is also a story about a young man and woman that are doing their damnedest to fight a growing connection that could ruin the financial jump start they both desperately need for their future.

If you are looking for angst and pain, you aren’t going to find it here.  But if you are looking for an amazingly well adjusted hero and heroine and a story that contains a healthy dose of humor and romance, then Boomerang is for you.  It’s definitely one I will be re-reading by the pool this summer.  Assuming I can pry it out of Shel or Bel’s fingers.

Nat

*Thank you to everyone (Avon, William Morrow, RT, etc.) for giving us the opportunity to read Boomerang and review it.  Boomerang will be released on July 8, 2014.

Into the Still Blue by Veronica Rossi

Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky, #3)* * * *

The earth-shattering conclusion to Veronica Rossi's "masterpiece" Under the Never Sky trilogy and sequel to the New York Times bestsellingThrough the Ever Night (Examiner.com).

Their love and their leadership have been tested. Now it's time for Perry and Aria to unite the Dwellers and the Outsiders in one last desperate attempt to bring balance to their world.

The race to the Still Blue has reached a stalemate. Aria and Perry are determined to find this last safe-haven from the Aether storms before Sable and Hess do-and they are just as determined to stay together.

Meanwhile, time is running out to rescue Cinder, who was abducted by Hess and Sable for his unique abilities. And when Roar returns to camp, he is so furious with Perry that he won't even look at him, and Perry begins to feel like they have already lost.

Out of options, Perry and Aria assemble a team to mount an impossible rescue mission-because Cinder isn't just the key to unlocking the Still Blue and their only hope for survival, he's also their friend. And in a dying world, the bonds between people are what matter most.

In this final book in her stunning Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi raises the stakes to their absolute limit and brings her epic love story to an unforgettable close.

Review:

SPOILER ALERT – This review might be slightly spoilery if you haven’t read Under the Never Sky and Through the Ever Night.

When Roar returns to the Tides without Cinder, Perry knows that he must take a team to rescue him at any cost.  Cinder is one of them and Perry will not leave him to die.  Leaving the Six behind, Perry heads to Sable and Hess’s camp with a misfit group consisting of both Outsiders and Dwellers.  A group that he hopes will be able to help infiltrate the camp and bring Cinder home safely.   But when Roar’s anger and despair over Liv’s death impairs the mission, Perry, Aria, Roar and Soren must fight to not only save Cinder but to also escape the clutches of Sable and Hess.  And in all this mess, Perry ALSO has to find a way to transport his tribe to the Still Blue before they are all destroyed in the Aether storms that are worsening by the day.

You all know how I feel about the characters in this series.  They are amazing.  Even with their setbacks, they keep getting stronger and stronger.  Perry is fully respected by the Tides now.  The majority will follow him to the ends of the earth.  Their loyalty was hard won and Perry doesn’t take any of it for granted.  Aria is becoming a leader in her own right; a leader of the Dwellers that were rescued from Reverie and a naturally appointed diplomat between the Tides and the survivors of Reverie.

There isn’t much more I can say without spoiling the ending to this great trilogy.  What I can tell you is that this series affected me in much the same way as Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series.  In both books there is so much action; so much movement and conflict that I completely lose my breath.  I’m both appalled and envious of the sheer amount of physical endurance and exertion that these people need (and have) to live their lives.

Again, if you are a lover of dystopian, sci-fi and fantasy, these books are a must-read.

Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi

Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky, #2)
* * * * *

It's been months since Aria learned of her mother's death.

Months since Perry became Blood Lord of the Tides, and months since Aria last saw him.

Now Aria and Perry are about to be reunited. It's a moment they've been longing for with countless expectations. And it's a moment that lives up to all of them. At least, at first.

Then it slips away. The Tides don't take kindly to former Dwellers like Aria. And the tribe is swirling out of Perry's control. With the Aether storms worsening every day, the only remaining hope for peace and safety is the Still Blue. But does this haven truly exist?

Threatened by false friends and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night?

In this second book in her spellbinding Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi combines fantasy and sci-fi elements to create a captivating adventure-and a love story as perilous as it is unforgettable.

Review:

Sometimes I make really poor reading decisions.  Like that time I waited a year to read Through the Ever Night.  Because that meant it had been 2 years since I had read Under the Never Sky and for a few chapters I was thoroughly confused.  I couldn’t remember SO MANY THINGS.  Details that I am sure I was convinced were etched in my memory forever when I first read it. Fortunately, my memory was jogged and I was not only reminded of things I had forgotten but I also got to experience, AGAIN, the full on thrill that is reading Aria and Perry’s story.

Through the Ever Night begins with Perry finding Aria after she has just left Reverie.  She is on the search for the elusive Still Blue.  The mythical place where the skies are blue and there is no Aether to instill constant fear in the land’s inhabitants.  If she can find that, then Hess will release Talon back to his uncle Peregrine AND maybe Perry can move the Tides somewhere safe.  Aria first returns to the Tides with Perry and his men so that Perry can prepare and then go on the search for the Still Blue with Aria.

To the people of the Tides, Aria is obviously a Dweller.  Regardless of her distinction as an Aud and their Blood Lord’s acceptance of her, she is still the enemy and they do not want her there.  Perry insists that she be marked as Aud during her stay with the Tides.  During the marking ceremony, Perry senses something has gone terribly wrong.  The ink used for the marking has been poisoned and Aria is becoming increasingly ill.  That attempt on her life shows Aria that Perry is still working on gaining the loyalty of his tribe.  Leaving now would only prove to the Tides that he is not ready to lead.  Early the next morning, Aria and Roar take off to search for the Still Blue.  Without Perry.

Although hurt, Perry understands why Aria and Roar left without him.  He concentrates on taking care of his tribe and preparing for the ever increasing Aether storms.  Hoping that Aria and Roar will return with good news before it is too late.

Aria has become such a strong and brave character.  The soft girl from the beginning of Under the Never Sky has become a hunter, a fighter and a warrior.  A young woman that makes quick calculated decisions while remaining loyal to those that she loves.  As for Perry, we see Perry grow so much in this book.  He is a warrior reluctantly turned Blood Lord.  And he is young and inexperienced in being a leader.  But he is sure about one thing.  He loves the Tides.  And he wants his tribe to be safe and survive.  Those two things will hopefully be enough to gain the support he needs to continue.   And then there is the ever passionate Roar.  His and Aria’s sibling-like relationship is wonderful to watch.  And their need to protect each other is life saving numerous times.

Veronica Rossi hits another home run with Through the Ever Night.  If you are a fan of dystopian, fantasy and/or science fiction YA, then this is a series that you should check out.

Top Ten 2012 (It's Nat's Turn!)

Wow.  Is it the end of the year already?  Where did the time go?  2012 was a rough year for all of us in one way or another.  And because of that each of us went through long lasting reading funks.  But even with that funk I managed to read 78 books this year. That is high for me on a normal year so I won't complain...

As usual, I had a hard time deciding which books to include in my Top Ten of 2012.  I, of course, cheated a little by adding a few honorable mentions at the end. How I narrowed those down to only three is byond me...So here it is.  My Top Ten of 2012.  In no particular order.

The Lovers Dictionary by David Levithan - A modern love story told in single words and definitions. So many pages resonated with me and how I feel about the Executive Officer. I still go back and re-read passages.  And the best part?  David Levithan continues to define life, love and relationships through words on Twitter @loversdiction

Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir by Jenny Lawson Hands down, my favorite book of the year.  Yeah, you all thought I would choose a romance, didn't you?  Well I didn't.  I chose this amazingly hilarious (and rarely serious) memoir by Jenny Lawson, The Bloggess.  I can't begin to tell you much how I laughed.  And laughed.  And laughed.  And cried a little.  And laughed some more.

Chase In Shadow by Amy Lane - Thanks to Bel, this is where my love of Amy Lane began.  This is a brutally emotional story of a young man struggling to remain in the closet while using the gay-for-pay porn industry as an outlet.  Oh don't worry.  There is definitely some happy in this story.  But first, Ms. Lane will stomp on your heart a good five or six times.  Because she's kind of awesome like that.  And apparently that's my thing since I have read about a dozen more of her books since Chase in Shadow.

Rockoholic by C.J. Skuse - This one snuck up on me.  It was nothing what I expected.  Instead it was so much more.  A brilliant dramatic comedy  that is in turn hilarious and disturbing.  As I stated in my review, C.J. Skuse should be applauded her sheer awesomeness.

Dash and Lily's Book of Dare by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan - I am so happy that I read this right before Christmas.  A perfect romantic comedy that not only put me in the holiday spirit but also had me giggling well into the early hours of the morning.  I believe this has been optioned for a movie and I will be absolutely thrilled if it makes it to the big screen. AND if I can put a Dash on hold for youngest daughter, that would be most excellent.

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry - The chemistry between Echo and Noah not only drips off this hot cover, it also drips off every single page within the book.  It was steamy.  It was angsty.  It was romantic.  And it made me cry.  A quadruple threat.  I can not wait until the companion novel, Dare You Too, is released in May 2013.

Making Promises by Amy Lane - I was instantly smitten with forever-boy (or forever-man in this case since this isn't YA and he is 30-something) Shane.  His patient pursuit of the adorably prickly and bitchy Mikhail is so understanding and loving that I just couldn't help but fall in love with him.  Also, how could I not love a book with this beautiful quote, "I cannot face you if you think I look at you and see anything less than the man you are.  I am not settling for you, I am reaching for you, and there is a difference..."

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - I find it impossible to discuss this book with someone that hasn't read it.  The sheer beauty and sadness of it is overwhelming.  All I will say is that John Green is a genius.  His previous stories are great but this one….well there is a reason that it has been so well received by so many.  Once you read it, check out this to answer to any and all of your questions regarding Hazel and Augustus:  http://onlyifyoufinishedtfios.tumblr.com/

Unbreak My Heart by Melissa Walker - So often books are about being hurt by someone else.   Melissa Walker is one of the rare authors that chose to focus on the character that did the hurting.  We all make mistakes in our lifetime.  Some of those mistakes are bigger than others.  This story was about learning to live with those mistakes and how to rebuild your life after suffering the damage you caused.  This story was beautiful and I think is a must read for teens just so they know that life does move on and it does get better.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi - This was one of the first books I read this year.  So often I will read something early in the year that I really enjoy but then it is overshadowed by something else.  In twelve months, Under The Never Sky has never swayed from my Top Ten.  This is a perfect combination of romance, fantasy and sci-fi and the second in the series will be an auto-buy for me when it is released the first week of 2013.

Honorable Mentions:

The Curiosites by Maggie Stiefvater, Tessa Gratton and Brenna Yovanoff & Boys of Summer Edited by Steve Berman - As I have mentioned numerous times, I do not like short story compilations.  This year, a number of YA authors set out to teach me a lesson.  Both The Curiosities (a collection of supernatural and horror stories) and Boys of Summer (an anthology of Gay YA shorts) proved to me that there are not only some amazing short stories out there but also a number of great authors that I can't wait to read more of.

Gambling Men by Amy Lane - To be honest, I could have added Amy Lane books to most of my Top Ten.  And it was REALLY difficult for me to choose between Gambling Men and Making Promises.  So this gets honorable mention. The biggest reason (besides the hilarious use of poker metaphors) is that I married a Quentin.  Yeah, that's right.  If you have read this you know to be super jealous ;-)

Within months of discovering he's next in a long line of vampire hunters, Alex Van Helsing has already defeated two powerful vampire leaders. Not bad for a fourteen-year-old.
But when a newly risen vampire queen threatens the fate of the world, Alex faces his deadliest challenge yet. Teaming up with a motorcycle-riding witch, Alex jets between Switzerland, the UK, and Spain in a frantic race to prevent the queen from unleashing a curse that will plunge the world into darkness.
With the clock ticking, Alex barely has time to breathe, let alone see his friends, and he's beginning to wonder if being a vampire hunter is worth all its sacrifices. In this thrilling finale to the action-packed series described as "James Bond meets Dracula," everything—Alex's future and, ultimately, that of the world—hangs in the balance.

Since she’d been on the outside, she’d survived an Aether storm, she’d had a knife held to her throat, and she’d seen men murdered. This was worse.
Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as The Death Shop—are slim. If the cannibals don’t get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She’s been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild—a savage—and her only hope of staying alive.
A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile—everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria’s help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal.

But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.

Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

AND

I’ve seen so many freaky things since I started attending Mythos Academy last fall. I know I’m supposed to be a fearless warrior, but most of the time, I feel like I’m just waiting for the next Bad, Bad Thing to happen. Like someone trying to kill me—again.

Everyone at Mythos Academy knows me as Gwen Frost, the Gypsy girl who uses her psychometry magic to find lost objects—and who just may be dating Logan Quinn, the hottest guy in school. But I’m also the girl the Reapers of Chaos want dead in the worst way. The Reapers are the baddest of the bad, the people who murdered my mom. So why do they have it in for me?

It turns out my mom hid a powerful artifact called the Helheim Dagger before she died. Now, the Reapers will do anything to get it back. They think I know where the dagger is hidden, but this is one thing I can’t use my magic to find. All I do know is that the Reapers are coming for me—and I’m in for the fight of my life.

Thank you all for being a part of our blog.  Good luck!  Stop by again soon!

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

* * * *

Aria has lived her whole life in the protected dome of Reverie. Her entire world confined to its spaces, she's never thought to dream of what lies beyond its doors. So when her mother goes missing, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland long enough to find her are slim.

Then Aria meets an outsider named Perry. He's searching for someone too. He's also wild - a savage - but might be her best hope at staying alive.

If they can survive, they are each other's best hope for finding answers.

Aria and a group of “friends” illegally enter a damaged area of their Pod - a domed city where people live protected from the dangers of the outside. After a deadly accident where only Aria and one other person survive, Aria is evicted from Reverie for her alleged crime. She is dropped off in the middle of “the Death Shop” with no hope of survival. By chance she is picked up by Peregrine, an Outsider that is responsible for her survival both in the Pod and out. By necessity they join together on a dangerous cross-country journey to find their lost loved ones and while on their quest they slowly begin to rethink the preconceived ideas they have about each other and their respective lives.

“They called the world beyond the walls of the Pod ‘the Death Shop’. A million ways to die out there. Aria never thought she’d get close.”

The minute I read the first paragraph of this book (see above quote) I knew that I would be flying through it. My curiosity was immediately piqued. It was imperative that I find out about “the Death Shop”. What was it? Why was it so dangerous? It didn’t take long to learn the answers to those questions. And once I learned them I was bombarded with a slough of new questions. This book keeps you guessing while at the same time satisfying the reader with the answers they want. I don’t believe many authors can accomplish that but Veronica Rossi manages it with flying colors.

I loved everything about this book. The futuristic world of those who lived in the pods. The rough, simple, and barbaric world of those that lived on the outside. I loved all of the characters. The main and the secondary, the good and the evil. Each of them had a purpose and was essential to the story. To put it simply - I was in fantasy/sci-fi/dystopia heaven while reading this book.

I want to say so much more about this book but I am afraid of ruining the experience for any future readers. All I can say is go read this. The ending left me with goose bumps and wanting more.
