This Scot of Mine Blog Tour

A daring deception…

Desperate to escape her vile fiancĂ©, Lady Clara devises a bold lie—that she’s pregnant with another man’s child. With her reputation in tatters, Clara flees to Scotland to live out her days in disgrace, resigned to her fate as a spinster…until she claps eyes on the powerful and wickedly handsome Laird Hunt MacLarin.

She’s the answer to his curse…

Laird of an ancient clan, Hunt needs an heir, but he comes from a long line of men cursed to die before the birth of their firstborn. When the Duke of Autenberry approaches him with a proposition—marry my ruined sister—it seems the perfect solution. Even better, the defiant lass stirs him to his very soul.

No escaping the truth...

Except marriage cannot set them free. No matter how much Hunt desires her. No matter how much Clara burns for him. Soon she is falling for her husband, but is love enough to end the curse? Or is the tragic history of the MacLarin Clan doomed to repeat itself?

Excerpt

Clara could not have made the invitation any clearer.
She didn’t know where such boldness came from within her. She had never forayed into intimacy like this. She didn’t know she had it in her. She supposed it had something to do with the way he made her feel . . . something to do with the fire in her blood.
He said her name again. “Clara.” In that husky brogue of his she felt herself melting, sliding deeper into a puddle of desire.
They hadn’t even kissed. Not a true romantic kiss. She did not count the chaste peck the morning of her wedding.
And heavens, she wanted him to kiss her.
She wanted his mouth on hers. She wanted to taste him with an ache that went bone-deep. Despite his gruffness, his mouth looked beautiful. There was a tenderness in the well-carved shape that she wanted to explore.

Chasing Christmas Eve by Jill Shalvis

***1/2

From Avon:

Meet cute...

Run for the hills—temporarily. That's Colbie Albright's plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie's so over it that she's under it. She's also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she's pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won't be a stranger for long.

Make merry...

Spence's commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn't have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot chemistry—he's got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself... just because she's gorgeous and a great listener just because she gets Spence immediately doesn't mean he won't be able to let Colbie go. Does it?

and hope for a miracle.

Now the clock's ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.

The holiday romance reading frenzy has begun!  I kicked off mine with Chasing Christmas Eve by Jill Shalvis.  A favorite of mine, Shalvis is known for her awkward and hilarious characters.  I read all her books, but the last few, to me, have been lacking some of her usual hilarity.  While I wouldn't really call Chasing Christmas Eve a holiday romance - it's really a romance that just happens to take place in the weeks leading up to Christmas.  The holiday itself doesn't play much of a role, more just a timing device.... the clock runs out on Christmas Eve, but hey, we will go with it anyway.

Jill Shalvis is back with her trademark funny in Chasing Christmas Eve!  Colbie is awkward as all hell and the Heartbreaker Bay gang is out in full force making Spence's life more interesting.  Colbie is overwhelmed by her success as a writer and her responsibilities and she runs away from home to find herself in San Francisco.  Specifically at the legendary fountain featured in this series.  Here she runs into Spencer and Elle.  Before she knows it, she's spending her vacation renting out an apartment in the building owned by Spence.  And of course, falling in love.  Colbie felt a little off, but she was Shalvis' trademark hot mess.  And her notes while she was waitressing at Finn's were killing me!

Spence has always been one of my favorite characters in this series, so I was happy to watch him fall.  :-)  Spencer is the enigmatic geeky millionaire.  He added humor and mystery to the series.  I liked that he wasn't angry about his past.  He was a little defeated about it, but not mopey and angry.  He was surprisingly open to falling for Colbie.

My only peeve about Chasing Christmas Eve is one that's pretty common in romance novels - it is heavy on the insta-love.  Within three weeks they are changing their lives (and I mean in a cross-country kind of move way) for one another.  Colbie is portrayed as an overly cautious kind of person, so this is pretty out of character for her.  But, like I said, this is a common pet peeve of mine when reading romance.

If you are a Shalvis fan, looking for a holiday themed book, or just a fan of fun, you should definitely check out Chasing Christmas Eve.  I'm always looking for holiday recs, so what's your favorite?

EXCERPT:

The bathroom door opened, and even better than his fantasy, Colbie emerged from a cloud of steam, her willowy body wrapped in one of his towels, her exposed skin gleaming and dewy damp. Her hair had been piled on top of her head, but wavy strands had escaped, clinging to her neck and shoulders.

He couldn’t tear his gaze off of her. There was just something so uncalculated about her, so . . . natural and easy. She was like a beacon to him, which was both crazy and more than a little terrifying.

Clearly not seeing him against the wall, she moved with an effortless grace to the suitcase she’d left at the door. Bending low enough to give him a near heart attack, she rifled through her things, mumbling to herself that she should’ve researched more about how to be a normal person instead of how to kill someone with an everyday object.

“Do you kill a lot of people, then?” Spence asked.

“Motherforker!” she said with a startled squeak of surprise, whirling to face him, almost losing her grip on the towel.

Five days a week, Spence worked out hard in this gym. Mostly to outrun his demons, but the upside was he could run miles without losing his breath. But he lost his breath now.

And that wasn’t his body’s only reaction.

Accidentally on Purpose by Jill Shalvis

From Publisher:

There’s no such thing as a little in love . . .

Elle Wheaten’s priorities: friends, career, and kick-ass shoes. Then there’s the muscular wall of stubbornness that’s security expert Archer Hunt—who comes before everything else. No point in telling Mr. “Feels-Free Zone” that, though. Elle will just see other men until she gets over Archer . . . which should only take a lifetime . . .

There’s no such thing as a little in lust . . .

Archer’s wanted the best for Elle ever since he sacrificed his law-enforcement career to save her. Their chemistry could start the next San Francisco Earthquake and he wants her 24/7, but Archer doesn’t want to be responsible for the damage. The alternative? Watch her go out with guys who aren’t him . . .

There is such a thing as . . .

As far as Archer’s concerned, nobody is good enough for Elle. But when he sets out to prove it by sabotaging her dates, she gets mad—and things get hot as hell. Now Archer has a new mission: prove to Elle that her perfect man has been here all along. . .

Source:  Advance Copy in exchange for an honest review.

Elle and Archer are ridiculous.  They are ridiculously funny, ridiculously hot, and ridiculously clueless!  While combustible, the couple is completely out of their minds.  Their entire antagonistic relationship is based upon misunderstandings and miscommunications.

Also, Archer has some serious boundaries issues.  Dude is a stalker.  He may have good intentions, but he's still a stalker and I'm a little disturbed.  Not enough to put down the book, mind you, but if you have issues with controlling puppet masters, Archer may not be your guy.

Elle.  Well, Elle has more issues than the New York Times.  And for good reasons, but still.  Girl needs to seek some professional help.

But really, who wants a perfect hero and heroine?  That would be all kinds of boring.  And Jill Shalvis is never boring.  Somehow, these two messed up people fall in love and make a hilarious spectacle for us to enjoy.  Accidentally on Purpose has skinny-dipping, smoking hot chemistry, a little mystery, and a whole lot of dysfunction!  You should definitely pick it up.  I can't wait to see what Jill has in store for Heartbreaker Bay next!

Exclusive Excerpt:
She handed him a water bottle and sat down on the opposite end on the love seat, as far from him as possible, which amounted to a half cushion away. “I wasn’t sure you’d come over when I called.”
The bottle made a crinkling noise when he grabbed on to it. “Why not?”
He didn’t mention that she’d used his emergency private number for a nonemergency, so neither did she. “You kind of ran out of here last night.”
Then she’d thought about him all night while Tyler sat there talking about his new job and the new city he loved. Emery had been happy for him, even as a part of her grumbled that it had been so easy for him to move on and never mention Tiffany.
For most of the night she’d been guilty of the same sin. As he talked, her mind switched to Wren. The sound of his voice. The way his muscles felt through his shirt. She certainly wouldn’t have won any Good Friend prize for her mental wanderings.
“You had company. Something and someone else to occupy your time.” Wren didn’t look at her as he set the unopened bottle on the coffee table.
She took in the stiffness of his shoulders and the fact he hadn’t even bothered to take off his suit jacket. He walked in and went to the couch because she told him to have a seat. Very little else had transpired except for her why-am-I-doing-this panicked race to the kitchen for water. “Don’t do that.”
He leaned back on the cushions and faced her. “What?”
Gone was the easy flow of conversation from last night and the touching. Yeah, he didn’t look even a little interested in touching, which was a damn shame. “You sound all haughty and businesslike.”
“You may have just summed up the majority of my personality.” He smiled but the gesture didn’t quite reach his eyes. It looked forced and disappeared right after it happened.
She tugged on the wrapper around her water bottle. Picked at the end until she could rip off a nice long piece. “I don’t buy that. Not anymore.”
His gaze bounced from her hands to her face. “What changed?”
“I don’t even know. Maybe it’s a sense or a hope.” Of course, neither of those explained why the air in the room was all but suffocating her.
“Ah.”
Talk about an unhelpful response. She put the bottle on the table next to his and sat back again, just inches away from him. “Does that mean you get what I’m saying?”
“Not even a little bit.”
She would have laughed at that if the tension strangling her in a bear hug would ease. “Any chance I could get you to take off your jacket? Maybe loosen that tie.”
“You still seem overly concerned with my wardrobe.” But he relaxed a little. Sank back into the cushions and rested his arm across the top.
“It’s like armor.”
His fingers tapped against the love seat. “It’s wool, I believe.”

“Now you’re being a gigantic pain in the ass, just because you can.” The guy could not take a hint. She was dying to get him out of the suit. She could pretend this had to do with wanting to know he was human and to loosen him up. Yeah, there was some of that, but this was really about wanting more from him.

EXCERPT:

She didn’t hear footsteps or see a shadow until the legs of the chair on the other side of the cafĂ© table screeched against the tile floor and a man sat down across from her. Strike that, not just a man. Not part of the usual striped-tie, navy-suit business crowd she waded through each day. This one had a lethal look to him. Dark hair with an even darker sense of danger wrapping around him.
He didn’t smile or frown while his gaze searched her face. Broad shoulders filled out every inch of the jacket of his expensive black suit. Those bright green eyes matched his tie and provided a shock of color to the whole Tall, Dark and Deadly look he had going on.
He managed to telegraph power without saying a word as a hum of energy pulsed around him. She fought off a shiver and reached for her spoon. Hardly a weapon, but something about this guy made her insides bounce and the blood leave her head, and she had no idea why.
“Excuse me?” She used a tone that let him know just sitting down without asking was not okay. Some women might like the commanding, takeover type of guy who assumed his presence was welcome everywhere. Not her.
“We need to come to an understanding.”
The voice, deep and husky with an edge of gravely heat, skidded across her senses. She felt it as much as she heard it. The tone struck her, held her mesmerized, before the meaning behind the words hit her. “Uh-huh, well, maybe we should understand that seat is already taken,” she said.
“By?”
“Literally anyone else who wants it.” She looked down, making a show of taking the lid off her cup and stirring the few inches of coffee left inside. That struck her as the universal not-interested signal.
She waited for him to grumble or call her a name and scamper off. She had issued a dismissal after all. But his presence loomed and she glanced up again.
“Emery Finn.” Her name rolled off his tongue.
That shiver moving through her turned into a full body shake. “Wait, do we know each other?”
“You’ve been making inquiries.”
It was the way he said it as much as what he said. How he sat there without moving. Perfect posture and laser-like focus that stayed on her face, never wavering even as a pretty woman openly gawked at him as she passed by.
The surreal scene had Emery grabbing on to her cup with both hands. “So?”
“Wrong answer.”

One Snowy Night by Jill Shalvis

From Publisher:

It's Christmas Eve and Rory Andrews is desperate to get home to the family she hasn't seen in years. Problem is, her only ride to Lake Tahoe comes in the form of the annoyingly handsome Max Stranton, and his big, goofy, lovable dog Carl.

Hours stuck in a truck with the dead sexy Max sounds like a fate worse than death (not), but Rory's out of options. She's had a crush on Max since high school and she knows he's attracted to her, too. But they have history… and Max is the only one who knows why it went south.

They've done a good job of ignoring their chemistry so far, but a long road trip in a massive blizzard might be just what they need to face their past… and one steamy, snowy night is all it takes to bring Max and Rory together at last

Source:  Advance Copy from publisher in exchange for an honest review.

We met Rory and Max in The Trouble With Mistletoe.  Rory is the troubled young woman Willa took under her wing.  Max is one of Archer's henchmen with the awesome dog, Carl.  This holiday novella brings Rory and Max into close quarters as Max gives Rory a ride home for the holidays.  An unexpected history, a snowstorm, and Carl are the highlights of One Snowy Night.  Ok, there's also the steamy romance, but Carl, folks, Carl!

I don't want to give anything away, but you all will want to pick up One Snowy Night as you are settling in for the holiday season.  This novella is perfect!  It's sweet, sexy, and a lot of fun - trademark Jill Shalvis.
