From the Desk of His Royal Highness Prince Robert
Aly—can’t stop thinking about tonight. Never thought enemies like us would end up naked together. Know you think Im cocky, but come on, sweetheart…don’t tell me it’s not the best sex you’ve ever had.
I’m not a good man. But for the first time, I wish I were. Maybe then I’d deserve you. I don’t. Not when I come from a family like mine. All these secrets…
You’re gorgeous. Clever. You call me out on my bullshit, and I bloody adore it.
I adore you, sweetheart.
You have your new bloke. And I’m…me. The playboy prince. We’re not meant to be together. But staying away from you is killing me, Aly. Thinking about him touching you is killing me.
I’ve no right to talk to you like this. Im sorry. It’s the whisky talking. This is what you do to me.
Rob
P.S.—am I stupid to think you might feel the same way?
P.P.S—I am not going to send this. So never mind.

The few glimpses of Rob that were in Royal Ruin had me believing that his own book would be a freaking royal treat! Rob is every bit as cocky and funny as he came off previously but in Royal Rebel, his playboy, irresponsible ways become more of a liability. That's because meeting beadstrong Aly has turned his world upside down. Aly, who is his future sister-in-law's best friend, can't stand him yet they're positively on fire when they're getting it on. Still she has no interest in pursuing anything beyond the physical with him because he couldn't be further from the ideal man and life she envisions for herself. Aly's a hardworking career woman who wants a man who's equally as driven and wants stability in the long run. Rob's convinced that it's something he's incapable of offering her. But the more he tries to let her go, the harder it is.
I love snark and Rob has plenty of it. He's the kind of character I love reading and laughing with. Aly, for all her attempts to be impervious to his charm, winds up being ambivalent throughout most of the story. Giving in to her feelings for him means giving up on her dreams. The shenanigans are only fun for so long though. Rob wouldn't be half as enjoyable if he didn't come to some sort of epiphany - and that would be that he needs to grow up. In the meantime, he and Aly behave like knuckleheads about until they're ready to confront what's been in front of them all along.
There were only two things within the story that stumped me: one, Rob's twin brother Jack was a complete no-show, even for a big occasion. I had to go back several pages to see if I'd missed an explanation for his absence and I didn't find any. Maybe it was there and I missed it. Two, his sister's non-presence at the same big occasion also had me wondering what was up. I know that Peterson is currently working on Jane's book so I'm hoping that all will be explained there. Despite these two questions in the back of my mind, they didn't stop me from enjoying the book.
It's clear that Peterson has been having a blast writing this series and we're the lucky ones who get to read it. Royal Rebel and the Flings With Kings Series is the perfect antidote to satisfy any royal romance cravings you're having. And now we wait for Jane to make her mark next!
