Dear Jane,
You’re a princess. I’m a thief. This isn’t a Disney movie. We never had a chance in hell of a happy ending. But I still wish I could have given you one.
When we met, I had you pegged as a snob. All polo and private jets. But you turned out to be the exact opposite. I fell for you the first day we met.
I lied to you about a lot of things. I don’t expect or deserve your forgiveness. You’re too good for me. But I was always honest about my feelings for you.
I hope you’ll find true happiness one day. That’s the only way I’ll ever be happy—knowing you’re okay.
I’m sorry—
Charlie

A STANDALONE Royal Romance!
Source: advance e-galley provided in exchange for an honest review
All right. If you're looking for prim and proper royalty, that's not what you'll find here because Jessica Peterson is all about infusing the romance with a whole lot of sexy. The Flings With Kings series has been fun so far but yowza, Royal Rogue is the hottest by far and I'll say it's my favourite so far, too!
Princess Jane has been divorced for a bit and is tired of the same types of the guys who keep parading in front of her. It's hard to be in the royal fishbowl where everyone sees you and judges you when all she wants to do is be herself. Be real. After her failed marriage, she knows that's what she wants: a guy who is genuine, not one of these cookie cutter types that will say what they think she wants to hear just to get in with her and her family. Along comes Charlie who seems to dispense with some of the typical niceties and for the first time she feels like she's having a honest to god regular conversation. Not to mention the fact that his rugged good looks and cheeky banter are also delightful. Charlie sees the loneliness behind Jane's eyes and can tell that she's tired of the same old gimmicks. In trying a different approach by lacing what he says with some grain of truth, he's breaking every rule he has about interacting with his mark. A mark who happens to have a valuable item in her possession that will fetch a high price and bring him the freedom he desperately wants. For a guy who's streetsmart and experienced, he wasn't banking on falling for his prey.
I totally loved this story! With two characters from such opposite backgrounds and many incorrect assumptions about each other, there's plenty of fire and lust between them. Jane isn't as delicate as she seems and Charlie isn't as heartless as his line of work implies. In fact, Charlie's struggle with his duplicity is what makes their relationship fascinating, not to mention risky, which is not something that we've seen with this series yet. Holy cow, I gobbled this up and to make things even better, Prince John aka Jack has a significant role in this as her loving, protective and suspicious brother. I was so excited to see him since he was a no-show in the last book. But his appearance here provides laughs and a sexy glimpse into his storyline that I cannot wait to read. There are also appearances by characters from the previous books so we get plenty of their craziness as well.
Jane and Charlie's unlikely coupling and the subsequent issues that arise had me guessing all sorts of scenarios but the eventual ending was not something I saw coming. In Royal Rogue, Peterson increases the fervor to bring a scorching hot romance to make your summer even hotter!

Royal Rebel (Flings With Kings #2) by Jessica Peterson
* * * 3/4
Royal. Recklessly Rebellious. Totally Delicious.
SUBJECT: Im sorry (Marked Confidential)
Sat 21 May 02:48 A.M.
From the Desk of His Royal Highness Prince Robert
Aly—can’t stop thinking about tonight. Never thought enemies like us would end up naked together. Know you think Im cocky, but come on, sweetheart…don’t tell me it’s not the best sex you’ve ever had.
I’m not a good man. But for the first time, I wish I were. Maybe then I’d deserve you. I don’t. Not when I come from a family like mine. All these secrets…
You’re gorgeous. Clever. You call me out on my bullshit, and I bloody adore it.
I adore you, sweetheart.
You have your new bloke. And I’m…me. The playboy prince. We’re not meant to be together. But staying away from you is killing me, Aly. Thinking about him touching you is killing me.
I’ve no right to talk to you like this. Im sorry. It’s the whisky talking. This is what you do to me.
Rob
P.S.—am I stupid to think you might feel the same way?
P.P.S—I am not going to send this. So never mind.

The few glimpses of Rob that were in Royal Ruin had me believing that his own book would be a freaking royal treat! Rob is every bit as cocky and funny as he came off previously but in Royal Rebel, his playboy, irresponsible ways become more of a liability. That's because meeting beadstrong Aly has turned his world upside down. Aly, who is his future sister-in-law's best friend, can't stand him yet they're positively on fire when they're getting it on. Still she has no interest in pursuing anything beyond the physical with him because he couldn't be further from the ideal man and life she envisions for herself. Aly's a hardworking career woman who wants a man who's equally as driven and wants stability in the long run. Rob's convinced that it's something he's incapable of offering her. But the more he tries to let her go, the harder it is.
I love snark and Rob has plenty of it. He's the kind of character I love reading and laughing with. Aly, for all her attempts to be impervious to his charm, winds up being ambivalent throughout most of the story. Giving in to her feelings for him means giving up on her dreams. The shenanigans are only fun for so long though. Rob wouldn't be half as enjoyable if he didn't come to some sort of epiphany - and that would be that he needs to grow up. In the meantime, he and Aly behave like knuckleheads about until they're ready to confront what's been in front of them all along.
There were only two things within the story that stumped me: one, Rob's twin brother Jack was a complete no-show, even for a big occasion. I had to go back several pages to see if I'd missed an explanation for his absence and I didn't find any. Maybe it was there and I missed it. Two, his sister's non-presence at the same big occasion also had me wondering what was up. I know that Peterson is currently working on Jane's book so I'm hoping that all will be explained there. Despite these two questions in the back of my mind, they didn't stop me from enjoying the book.
It's clear that Peterson has been having a blast writing this series and we're the lucky ones who get to read it. Royal Rebel and the Flings With Kings Series is the perfect antidote to satisfy any royal romance cravings you're having. And now we wait for Jane to make her mark next!

Review
* * * *
Kit and Emily met years ago at school when he was her TA.One thing led to another ... and let's just say that Peterson doesn't waste any time getting to the action.
Ten years later, she’s divorced, he’s in line to the throne
and needs to spruce up his image and create a good distraction from his
siblings’ shenanigans, so Kit convinces Emily to become his fake fiancée. Who
doesn’t love a royal love story? Emily apparently because she wigs out on Kit
every so often when things get too close for her liking.
Kit is immensely charming with his very English wit and
humour. And he’s hot. Seriously, that cover did me in! I liked that Emily doesn’t
romanticize royalty and that despite the tempting glitz and glamour she has her
head on straight for the most part. As for Kit and Emily together – they’re
hot. This is a funny second-chance love story that also covers some heavy
emotional ground. That doesn’t weigh down the story but gives it and its
characters depth and relatability.
I had a great time reading Royal Ruin and as soon as I was
done I wanted more. Of course, Peterson threw in a cute little twist at the end
that has me screaming for book 2 already. Read Royal Ruin and then wait
impatiently with me for the next in the Flings With Kings series.

Interview With Jessica Peterson

Hey everyone, I'm so excited Jessica spared some time during this bust release week to answer some questions for us about Royal Ruin. Enjoy! ~ Bel
Royal Ruins is your first novel in the Flings With Kings
Series (love that title, by the way). You’ve loosely based it on the current
British royal family. Did you uncover any fun bits of trivia about them during
your research?
What a great question!
I’m a huge Anglophile, so it’s no surprise that I am fascinated by the royal
family. I did do a good bit of research for this book, particularly on the
Queen and her role in modern British society. I was tickled to discover the
royal family, while politically quite powerless, wield enormous “soft power”
that can actually go a long ways in raising money for causes and charities.
They also use that power to strengthen ties with other countries (like when
Will and Kate went to visit mainland Europe during the Brexit controversy).
Some of the stuff I uncovered is a bit more fun – like the fact that the
Queen’s favorite nail polish is apparently Essie’s “Ballet Slipper”!
You’ve mentioned before that Kit is an amalgamation of
Prince Harry and Charlie Hunnam. That’s not a bad combo at all. What quality of
theirs appealed to you to create Kit?

Another great
question! So I adore Prince Harry (I know, I know, get in line), and while he’s
handsome and dashing and makes those prince uniforms look REALLY great, I think
I love his sense of energy and purpose the most. He seems strong yet
vulnerable, and you can tell he had a really close relationship with his
mother. I definitely borrowed some of that for Prince Kit. As for Charlie
Hunnam…well, besides the obvious (those blue eyes, that wicked smile!), I love the
emotional awareness he brings to the characters he plays. There’s something so
gentlemanly about that!
You introduced Kit’s siblings in this book, and we know by
the end that your next book will be about his younger brother, Rob. Can you
describe that book in three words?
Yes! Enemies to
lovers. With a royal twist. Their story plays out over the course of Em and
Kit’s wedding. It’s been SO fun to write!
Here’s a little game of ours - the next few questions tie
into our motto “books, boys, pie”. Help us get to know Kit and Emily better by
telling us what their responses would be to the following questions:
A book they always recommend
Kit—HAMLET or KING
LEAR by Shakespeare.
Emily—she’d love
Gillian Flynn, so let’s go with GONE GIRL.
First celebrity crush
Kit—Ginger Spice!
Emily—Justin
Timberlake circa 1999
Favourite dessert
Kit—he loves cake.
Favorite has to be anything lemon.
Emily—she loves a good
dessert martini!
Thanks for having me!
This was so fun.
