Thank you so much for having me here today to talk about my latest Sex on the Beach book, LOSING US! LOSING US picks up a little while after BETWEEN US leaves off, and it follows Austin Murphy and Mackenzie Forbes once again! Whenever you revisit a couple from a previous book, it’s always a challenge.
When people expressed an interest in more from the three books we originally wrote for Sex on the Beach (WE being me, Jennifer Probst, and Jenna Bennett), we were excited. But the thing is, when you go back to a couple who had a previously happy ending, chances are? Someone out there isn’t going to be happy with you.
I actually got some pretty harshly worded emails, because I took a couple they liked and put them through more drama. People want more from their favorite characters and get excited when a writer decides to go back to that couple for more, but if writers are going to write more about a set of characters…something has to happen to them, or else you’re writing about them doing crossword puzzles and brushing their teeth.
And I don’t know about you, but I find that extremely boring to read about. ;)
So, for this blog post, I thought it would be fun to have a little discussion about this topic. Tell me: Would you rather authors continue to revisit the characters you love, or would you prefer they be finished with one book, and they continue to live happily ever after in your mind?
